| Open letter from the President of the Association of Merchants of Totana | The Totana Merchants Association, which I preside today, has a history since its foundation of more than 38 years, possibly one of the oldest Merchants Associations in the Region of Murcia. My presidency, which has now lasted 24 years, has always been aimed at rendering a service to the merchants and also to the people of Totana, and this makes me serve myself especially proud. Our Municipality of Totana, a modern city of services, has a long-lived commercial tradition, which begins with the bartering of its first inhabitants, passing through the trade of the grinding of cereals in the Rambla de los Molinos since the 16th century, where There were 11 mills that carried out their task, having their influence both in Aledo and Totana, as well as in the region of Bajo Guadalentín itself. To date, we have a commercial fabric of more than 400 different businesses, covering practically all sectors, of which 78 are associated at the moment. The reason for this article is to briefly analyze the situation that merchants are going through at this precise moment, probably the worst situation in which we have seen ourselves in the entire history of this Totana Merchants Association.Fully immersed in this COVID-19 pandemic situation, suffering the so-called "second wave", and after a period of absolute closure of trade for more than two months, and a progressive reopening of the same, until now, which we value a decrease in sales of approximately 60 or 70%.Traditionally, the Commerce of Totana has been characterized by being very active and enterprising, dynamic in regeneration and adaptation to the circumstances that have arisen over time.In a relatively short space of time we have gone from a traditional and family business, as we usually say a life-long business, to a highly globalized business, updated daily through social networks, where you can buy an item from your store From another country, it is picked up by the transport company and in 24/48 hours it is at your destination. At the moment a commercial experience called "Marketplace" is beginning in Totana, another adaptation to the new times, an innovative tool that covers the objective of not being left behind in these turbulent times that we are going through. We are aware that this new sales formula puts the traditional sales system at serious risk, based on direct contact with the client, but we know that this special attention that direct contact with the client has is not going to be lost, since always There will continue to be customers who prefer the expert advice we provide, and also see and touch the item, even try it before they buy it.In my opinion, the merchants who make up the Totana trade have to take advantage of these moments of economic downturn, in which we have less work, to recycle our knowledge through training courses, learning new technologies, new modalities sales, etc ..., in such a way that when this situation happens, we have a new vision of our business and we know how to take advantage of the situation to emerge stronger.Signed.
