The Local Government Board of the Totana City Council has supported and recognized the proposal for the non-mechanized forestry management project around the headwaters of the Barranco de la Hoz, as a strategy for sustainable development and conservation of the values ??linked to the natural environment of the park regional Sierra Espuña, in the municipality of Totanero. In addition, institutional support for said project has been shown, reporting to the management of the Sierra Espuña Natural Park and the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment. The project consists of carrying out the sivicultural work of maintenance of the forest masses of high ecological value, using traditional methods and carrying out the felling, pruning, clearing and clearing with manual tools such as saws, axes, scissors and axes, among others. All these methods are carried out free of noise, dangerous emissions, and combustible and lubricating pollutants, many of which end up in soil or riverbeds; and since they do not pose a risk of starting forest fires. The idea arises, on the one hand, from the urgent need for silvicultural actions of many of the forest masses of the Region and, on the other, from the need to reduce the impact of these works in an increasingly sensitive environment.
