The mayor of Totana, Juan José Cánovas, today announced the granting of 130,729 euros, by the Government of Spain, to help cover the social needs caused by the coronavirus health crisis in this municipality.
This amount will basically go to speed up the granting of urgently needed aid;
to expand coverage of basic care, support, security and food for a number of elderly, disabled or dependent people.
The Government of Spain has distributed 9,284,806 million euros among the municipalities of the Region of Murcia to cover the social needs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which represents 3.097% of the total of 300,000 euros generated from extraordinary credits For this end.
Of these extraordinary funds, the totanero City Council will receive a total of 130,729 euros to reinforce the work of the Municipal Center of Social Services of the municipality, as managers of the needs caused by this health emergency.
The project is aimed at meeting various types of basic needs in individuals and families who are in a vulnerable situation, especially aggravated as a result of the current socio-sanitary crisis situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This action combines various actions such as Home Help Service (SAD), Telecare (TA), Respiro Caregivers of Dependent People (RC) and Economic and In-kind Aid for Coverage of Basic Needs (AEE-CNB).
The mayor recalled that "this budget item comes from an extraordinary loan of 300,000,000 euros approved by the Council of Ministers and, as indicated in the Royal Decree Law and in the loan distribution agreement."
Juan José Cánovas has indicated that these have been generated in order to guarantee and reinforce Basic Social Services Benefits to carry out urgent and extraordinary measures that are exclusively intended to deal with extraordinary situations arising from the coronavirus.
These grants, whose distribution is made according to distribution criteria processed by the different autonomous communities, will be used for direct financial support to families, emergency aid and home support measures.
In addition, these urgently needed aids will contribute to expanding the coverage of basic needs for care, support, security and food for a number of elderly, disabled or dependent people;
and to guarantee adequate follow-up of all open cases of families with minors with indications of risk of lack of protection.
Similarly, the first mayor of Totanero has pointed out that the project is proposed with the necessary flexibility to show a greater incidence in those aspects that require it according to the evolution of the current crisis;
and added that it joins the necessary economic measures implemented by the City Council itself - such as those advanced this week to Cáritas - to meet these great social objectives of our municipality.
Finally, he wanted to thank the work that the municipal technicians in this matter are carrying out these days to distribute the protective action of the social services system of care in Totana, attending to the individual technical, economic or material benefits that families or people affected by this pandemic.
Cánovas added that "this is not the time to wage war but rather to be loyal and help us"; but I wanted to put on record that "this distribution is not fair: Totana, possibly, has not received the treatment that corresponds to this distribution for the population and extension reality that brings together ", he asserted.
