Civil Protection volunteers have delivered to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena the 147 water glasses collected last week in Totana for their transformation as respirators, and their subsequent donation to hospitals of the Murcian Health Service (SMS).
The citizens of Totana responded, as always, to the Civil Protection appeal for the donation of "Easybreath" model masks, for snorkels that are sold by the sports products commercial company "Decathlon".
The interested neighbors contacted the Civil Protection volunteers by telephone, who would pick them up at their homes for several days, compiling the indicated number.
All the masks will be delivered to hospitals for use in the treatment of patients with coronavirus, since their use demonstrates good efficacy in cases of mild patients with this pathology.
At the moment, Civil Protection no more glasses are collected and the Polytechnic University has pending transforming a thousand masks as respirators.
In the event that more is needed, a similar collection campaign will be promoted again in Totana.
These works are carried out in the Sedi-cUp-ct FABLAB Digital Manufacturing laboratory at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, which started two weeks ago with 3D printing of one of the nationally validated fan parts to attend to those affected due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This action is part of the project Innovative Help to Create Respirators (AIR) in which multidisciplinary teams from different fields participate, collaborating with the aim of being able to use 3D printing technologies to manufacture sanitary equipment such as face masks, fans, masks or protective visors, among others.
