The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, today made a visit to the home of Juan Tudela Piernas, better known as "Uncle Juan Rita", the longest-lived neighbor of Totana, on the occasion of his 108th birthday, which he celebrated accompanied by relatives , friends and neighbors.
The totanero councilor, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation and all the neighbors of Totana, has wanted to have a special gesture of affection and proximity with one of the neighbors who has most prestigious the name of Totana and has fought to maintain, to through the trovo, the popular traditions and cultural customs of the municipality and the Region of Murcia.
The City of Totana already delivered in February 2010 the Title of Adoptive Son, as set out in the Protocol and Ceremonial regulation of the Totanero Consistory, to Juan Tudela Piernas, in an emotional event that took place at the Sociocultural Center La Jail.
Two years later, in February 2012, coinciding with its 100 years, Totana paid an institutional tribute to Uncle Juan Rita, by inaugurating a square that bears his name in the Triptolemos area, between Mazarrón Avenue and Cartagena Street from this city.
The "Uncle Juan Rita", the long-time member of the Aledo Gang, as he is known in the local and regional cultural field, is a man of an enviable artistic and human trajectory, closely linked to the municipality of Totana, where he has been living years.
He was born in Aledo on February 14, 1912, but the vicissitudes of life transferred him, along with his mother and a brother to Zúñiga, in the municipality of Lorca, where it was natural and lived until he married.
The regional government granted, precisely, two years ago the Gold Medal of the Community on June 9, on the occasion of the Day of the Region, to the Murcian trovero, for representing "the living legacy of the traditions of the Region of Murcia ".
On the occasion of its 108th birthday, the General Archive honors these days the popular trovero with an exhibition of portraits in which 33 photographers from the Region of Murcia participate, consisting of 54 black and white and color images.
