The City Council of Totana strongly condemns and shows its institutional revulsion for the two new cases of gender violence that occurred during the past weekend after the death of two women in Lugo and Granada, and which already account for ten so far in 2020.
In both cases there were no previous complaints, as in the case of the other eight women who have been killed by their partners and ex-partners so far this year.
The last two cases have been a 49-year-old woman in Lugo, allegedly murdered by her romantic partner on Saturday.
Apparently, the victim had a minor daughter.
The other death was that of a 38-year-old woman in Granada, also allegedly murdered by her partner and also with a minor daughter.
In addition to the 10 dead women, three of them of foreign nationality, five minors have been orphaned.
From the Public Administrations the importance of the complaint is insisted in order to protect the victims, although according to new studies, women victims of gender violence take an average of 8 years and 8 months to report.
Even more difficult for women who have children, they do not usually report up to 15 years in the case of women with children over 18.
The Consistory totanero emphasizes the need to work together to stop and end this social scourge so that the need to raise awareness from education to avoid behaviors that incite inequality between men and women is stressed.
Against gender violence, a common front of "Zero Tolerance" must be made;
because not only people who die murdered at the hands of their partners must be remembered, but also those who suffer every day in their homes any type of physical or psychological violence.
