It is carried out between February 10 and 16 in order to reduce the number of injuries and deaths in traffic accidents, and have a more accurate idea of the incidence and its evolution nationwide
The Local Police of Totana has joined the new Special Campaign for monitoring and control of trucks and buses, which in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), will be deployed between February 10 and 16.
The driving of these vehicles is not the same as that of a tourism, the dynamic behavior is different, especially if it is loaded.
In particular, the securing of the load is vital, any displacement of the same affects the stability of the vehicle by displacement of the center of gravity.
Among these types of vehicles, the incidence of road exits and overturns is higher, which can be explained by excessive or poor load placement.
The Local Police will carry out its controls in various points of urban and interurban roads.
Although 68% of the vehicle fleet in Spain are passenger cars, the transport of goods (trucks and vans) has an important weight in road safety, since it represents the second most numerous type of vehicles that circulates on our roads (14 % of the total of the park) and are involved in 17% of accidents with victims that occurred in 2018.
The bus park represents about 1% of the total car park, being involved in 2% of accidents involving victims.
This data, together with a higher case fatality rate in the case of accidents with goods vehicles of more than 3,500 kg, leads the DGT to launch this surveillance campaign, whose objective is to help reduce the number of injured and deceased in traffic accidents, and have a more accurate idea of the incidence and its evolution nationwide.
