The mayor urges the Ministry of Development for the third lane planned on the A7 from Crevillente to Alhama de Murcia, continue to Puerto Lumbreras (30/11/2019)

The mayor, Juan José Cánovas, has raised a motion to the ordinary plenary session in December in which he urges the Ministry of Development to ensure that the third lane provided on the A7 from Crevillente to Alhama de Murcia, continue to Puerto Lumbreras thus improving communications in the Guadalentín region

In his motion, the councilor asks the Ministry to contemplate in the General State Budget of 2020, picking up the construction of the third lane in this infrastructure to Puerto Lumbreras and thus not ending up in Alhama de Murcia, as is the forecast of the Government of Spain.

In addition, it requests that the levels of service and road safety of this infrastructure be guaranteed in relation to all the municipalities of the Guadalentín Region, as established in the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T).

The Mayor's Office will direct this request, as soon as it is approved by the municipal plenary, before the Secretary of State for Infrastructure of the Ministry of Development.

In addition, it intends to transfer this agreement to the Ministry of Development and Infrastructures of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, the Town Halls of Lorca, Águilas, Aledo, Alhama and Puerto Lumbreras, as well as to the business organizations CROEM and CECLOR.

According to the motion of Juan José Cánovas, since February 2018 the construction project of the Third Rail on the Mediterranean Highway (A7) is underway: in this case, from Crevillente to Alhama de Murcia, being the start in Monforte del Cid .

This is a project of 72.8 kilometers that, according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Development, will be divided into four sections and will have an estimated budget of approximately 588 million euros.

This announcement was made by the Government of Spain in the framework of the ambitious project that was the Extraordinary Road Investment Plan.

With this infrastructure, in addition to attending to long-distance journeys between Alicante and Andalusia, service levels and traffic safety between the capitals of Alicante and Murcia will be improved, as recalled by the mayor.

In addition, he notes that the A-7 has two lanes per direction and supports an average traffic of 41,000 vehicles per day, which increases to 47,000 in the month of July.

The construction of a third lane on both roads of the A-7 highway will increase the capacity of the highway and improve its service level.

From this City Hall the project is considered “short†because the extension of the road to Alhama de Murcia would be a “comparative tort†for the rest of the municipalities of the Guadalentín region;

an area with great export activity in the fruit and vegetable sector, as well as for the industrial estates that surround this important road infrastructure, including that of Saladar in Totana.

Cánovas indicates that the continuity of this project to Puerto Lumbreras would allow the region of Guadalentín to be structured and cohesive at a social and economic level;

and encourage the projection of the industrial parks surrounding the A-7, some of them very important, such as those of El Saladar de Totana, La Hoya, La Torrecilla de Lorca or Puerto Lumbreras, with an important link with the municipality de Águilas or the future Lorca-Caravaca highway.

The mayor of Totana reiterates in his proposal that the construction of the third lane to Puerto Lumbreras would come to solve the strong presence of heavy traffic that supports the structural axis of the Region of Murcia with Andalusia in the Mediterranean Corridor, which is origin, transit and destination A lot of merchandise.

“From the City Council of Totana we want to join and support the opinions and requests of businessmen, regional government or the recent meeting of the Mayors of the Guadalentínque Region, which would strengthen our region, enhancing resources and improving service levels and road safety, as established the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) â€, picks up the motion.

Cánovas says that "there are reasons of weight and justice to argue our request that would condition the future of our peoples in an area as important as transportation and communications."
