A group of 24 students of 2ºB of ESO, of the IES Juan de la Cierva and Codorníu de Totana participated this past week with two of their teachers, Joaquina García Melgarejo and their tutor, Jesús Martínez Cánovas in the Program of Scientific Routes, artistic and literary immersion in English language organized by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
The Program offers various routes throughout Spain, each of them with an itinerary of visits to museums, monuments and other places of interest in various cities of Spain, in which students have to share for 7 days all the activities with another Educational center of the same level and perform conversation dynamics in English every day.
In the case of IES Juan de la Cierva and Codorníu, the route granted has been No. 5, in which different cities of Western Andalusia and Extremadura have been visited.
The center was selected together with other secondary schools throughout Spain to implement different measures that affect sustainable urban planning.
The IES Juan de la Cierva and Codorníu presented a project that addressed noise pollution in cities, through activities in which students have measured the sound intensity at different points in each city, recorded the sounds heard in different places and they have measured the auditory capacity of the inhabitants in each city, all aimed at raising awareness among the population and its rulers in general and the students in particular about the importance of silence and the serious health risks of noise pollution in cities .
Along with all this, students have been able to visit different places of great interest, such as the Rota (Huelva) air and naval base, the cities of Cádiz, Seville and Mérida, a beekeeping farm, the Jerez circuit, the mines from Riotinto, a ham dryer in Jabugo and the cave of wonders in Aracena.
Thanks to this activity, students have been able to know different emblematic places in Spain, have developed their communicative skills in English and have strengthened their social relationships while developing the different activities together with the rest of their classmates.
All of them have valued the experience as very enriching in every way and encourage other centers to participate in future calls.
