Totana participates in a regional challenge to be the municipality that recycles more glass from today until November 3, an initiative that will be carried out within the framework of the "Encesta glass, we all win" campaign, of Ecovidrio, and that It aims to associate the sport of basketball with the recycling of glass containers and the care of the planet, increasing the amount of glass deposited in the igloos.
The Councilor for the Environment, Pedro José Sánchez, and municipal technicians of this department have participated in the presentation of this initiative.
From today until November 3, igloo containers shaped like a basketball will be installed for glass recycling.
The prize for the municipality that recycles more glass during the days that the containers are installed is the construction of a sports track made of recycled glass.
The winner will be announced in December.
Participating municipalities will earn points for the kilos of recycled glass and for the dissemination of the campaign to promote recycling.
Ecovidrio is a non-profit organization that is responsible for the management of glass containers deposited in containers throughout Spain;
and whose campaign seeks to relate healthy lifestyle habits, such as sports, with other healthy habits for our planet, such as glass recycling.
The objective of this initiative is to increase the amounts of glass containers that are collected in the igloos, raising awareness of the importance of recycling, while promoting the practice of basketball and the values ​​that this sport has associated such as companionship and Collaboration, teamwork.
To achieve this, Ecovidrio and the Autonomous Community have devised a campaign that will be carried out in the 12 most populous municipalities in the Region from today until next December and will consist of the distribution of five original igloos in the form of a ball of Rotating basketball in the most central areas of three municipalities every week.
At the end of the campaign, the municipality that has collected more glass containers in these particular igloos and has spread the campaign better, will be rewarded with the reform of one of its municipal tracks with recycled glass material, the first of these characteristics that will be in the region.
Basketball is a sport where teamwork, coexistence and solidarity are fundamental.
These are values ​​shared by recycling, where only among all of us can we preserve the environment and save the planet.
The campaign was presented this morning in Murcia, by the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo Zapata, the president of the Basketball Federation of the Region of Murcia, Juan Carlos Hernández González, and the Manager from the Ecovidrio Zone, Roberto Fuentes Catalán.
In addition, they have been accompanied by the councilors and technical staff with responsibility in the environmental areas of the 12 municipalities participating in it.
During the next weeks, this campaign that starts in the city of Murcia, will be extended to the municipalities of Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Torre Pacheco, Águilas, Cieza, Yecla, San Javier, Totana and Mazarrón.
As the final touch of the campaign and once the works of the winning track are finished, in December the presentation of the awarded municipality will be carried out, as well as the renovated track with recycled glass containers.
According to the latest available data for 2018, the citizens of the Region of Murcia recycled a total of 25,363 tons of glass containers.
This means that each inhabitant recycled an average of 17.2 kg of glass per inhabitant.
Regarding the rate of containerization, the Region of Murcia has a total of 7,233 containers installed, so there is one container for every 204 inhabitants.
