After a year away from the competition, 'Lolo' Aviles returned to a test and did so on the occasion of the thirty-fourth edition of the Ascent to the Sanctuary of La Santa, a date that Malaga has won a couple of times years ago.
For the occasion, the MT Racing rider premiered his new Cupra TCR with which he arrived in Totana with the aim of rolling as much as possible and testing the settings of a vehicle quite different from his previous BRC BR53.
As the objective was to shoot everything that could be done, Aviles went out to the free training scheduled for Saturday morning, and managed to complete three ascents, which undoubtedly gave him great information about the vehicle and the route.
For official training, the Malaga already fought for the podium of category III, leaving at 1:55 his best time.
In Race 1, he went all out, going down to 1:51 and finishing Saturday's third place in the category reserved for passenger cars.
On Sunday, 'Lolo' began the last official training repeating third place, and after lowering his time to 1: 50.1 in Race 2 and getting another 1:50 high in Race 3, he managed to climb to the podium of the category III in a spectacular return to the competition.
Aviles commented after the dispute of this event that “the goal here at the end of the year is to do some tests with the new León TCR, and we decided that Totana was a good date to return to the competition.
The truth is that we left very happy with the Murcia appointment since we have found ourselves very comfortable with the new car and I am looking forward to the next appointment to continue testing things.
I was looking forward to this return, and we are already planning next season, of which we will announce the plans in the near future ”
