In addition, pet owners are required to remove excreta from public roads to avoid neighborhood complaints and administrative penalties.
The Local Police of Totana has intensified during the last weeks, both with uniformed and civilian agents, the surveillance in the public streets of the urban area in compliance with the Municipal Ordinances of Urban Hygiene and the Protection and Keeping of Pets.
The most frequent reasons for the sanctions are for depositing the garbage in the containers outside the established schedule, taking it to the public thoroughfare on days and hours not allowed.
The schedules established in both winter and summer are from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
and remember that on Saturdays the garbage must not be deposited since such service is not provided.
In addition, other circumstances are throwing glass and other objects on public roads, urinating on public roads, not collecting excrements of domestic animals from public roads, placing signs without the relevant authorization or distributing leaflets and advertising without the mandatory permit, among others.
The penalties imposed for these offenses range up to 750 euros for those that are considered mild, up to 1,500 euros for the serious and up to 3,000 euros for the most serious.
Citizen awareness
The Municipal Ordinance of Urban Hygiene establishes that animal owners are responsible for damages or affections to people and things and for any action that causes dirt on public roads and, in the absence of the owner, will be responsible for accompanying the animal at the time of the action.
According to the Municipal Ordinance, municipal agents are entitled, at all times, to demand from the owner or holder of the animal the immediate repair of the condition caused.
The non-withdrawal of excrements from public roads is considered as a minor infraction by both ordinances and can be sanctioned with a fine of up to 600 euros.
