Totana is one of the municipalities of the Region of Murcia that generates less impact with its street lighting, as can be deduced from an investigation that has analyzed a total of 2,000 municipalities throughout Spain and places it as a population with smaller light pollution in This autonomous community.
The study was carried out by the University of Exeter (United Kingdom), with the participation of the company GEASig, for SaveStars Consulting, SL that has prepared the ranking of light pollution in Spain;
on whose podium of environmental problem are the cities of Bilbao, L´Hospitalet de Llobregat and Baracaldo (Vizcaya).
This study of the light map includes variables related to light pollution such as the number of street lamps per square kilometer, the power emitted by each luminaire, the number of light points, the total power and the emitted per person, among many others.
The most polluting municipalities in this area are Torre Pacheco, Fortuna, San Javier, Abanilla, Archena and Los Alcázares.
Totana is ranked 21st at the regional level and 496 in the national ranking.
In addition, it is the locality number 945 having the lamppost variable per square kilometer and 2,123 in terms of average power emitted by lamppost.
The main parameter to determine if a luminaire is more or less polluting is its temperature and color, being the shades of blue or white, the ones that generate the most light pollution.
