The suspension of the Cercanías train service in the C-2 Murcia-Lorca-Águilas nucleus will be extended until next February 28, five days more than initially planned, according to the City Council. Totana
In principle, the circulation of trains between the stations of Murcia and Águilas and vice versa, was to be interrupted from February 11 and until this Saturday, day 23, as a result of the technical work that has been carried out for the commissioning of new security installations in this section of the conventional width line.
The provisional stoppage affects approximately 3,000 passengers who use this line on a daily basis, in which the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) is proceeding with the commissioning of new safety installations in the C-2 Cercanías core area between Murcia, Lorca and Eagles;
logically affecting the stop of the Totana intermodal station.
The works that were the object of the stoppage in the service have concluded and the delay is due to the fact that the pertinent documentation essential for obtaining the authorization of commissioning and the need for all the points of the file.
This is also why Renfe has extended its alternative plan for the transportation by road of the passengers of this suburban line until 23:00 hours on February 28.
The works undertaken will contribute to significantly reduce travel times and will increase the length of trains over 200 meters.
The works represent an investment of 7.6 million euros and will be used for the implementation of the Automatic Single Way Blockade System (BLAU), which will allow, by means of modern computer systems, to increase the safety and reliability conditions of the facilities by reducing the concurrence of the human factor.
New field elements have also been implemented in these same stations, as well as the ASFA system equipment, lateral light signals, alphanumeric direction indicator signs, terminal boxes, track circuits, axle counters, protection of level crossings, monitoring of track devices, drives and new fiber optic communications cable network.
