The mayor of Totana, Andrés García, and the councilor of Finance, Ana María Cánovas, participated yesterday in a meeting called by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) at its headquarters in Madrid, and attended by representatives of the Ministry of Property and, basically, of the eleven municipalities in situation of greater financial risk with the purpose of analyzing and proposing measures that allow to clean up the economic-financial state of these consistories.
In this work table the secretary general of the FEMP, Carlos Daniel Casares, the general secretary of Autonomic and Local Finance of the Ministry of Finance, Diego Martínez López, the deputy general director of Studies and Financing of Local Entities of the Ministry, Gabriel, met. Hurtado, and the deputy director of the Local Treasury of the FEMP, Carlos Prieto.
In this were cited the municipal representatives of the municipalities that are working hand in hand with the Ministry of Finance and the FEMP in this term to solve the situation of municipalities that are in this situation, and know the measures included in the current Project Law on General State Budgets for 2019.
In addition to Totana attended mayors and councilors of the municipalities of Gandía, Algeciras, Aranjuez, Jerez de la Frontera, Los Palacios, Ayamonte, Puerto Real, Parla, Nalvacarnero and Belmonte.
The local managers made common demands, such as the need to extend the amortization periods of the Ordination Funds directed to local entities, to make the Adjustment Plans more flexible, to adjust the payment of the debt to the gross savings obtained by the town halls and, above all, and urgently, the refinancing of the financial debt, which in the case of Totana currently amounts to 97.8 million euros.
The mayor of Totana described the meeting as "very productive" because it included all the entities and administrations involved;
and expressed his satisfaction at the fact that "we are given the possibility to analyze the measures adopted by the Ministry, and to make known the approaches of the municipalities that have a more pressing state in order to seek alternatives and solutions to medium and long term".
Andrés García reported that the Ministry advocates maintaining fiscal discipline and controlling spending;
At the same time he explained that the town councils asked the ministerial officials that this Administration adapt to "the different peculiarities and the reality of each municipality in terms of adjustment measures".
The mayor of Totana said that this work table is born "with a vocation for continuity" and reiterated his satisfaction that "at the same table we sit down all the affected parties, and above all give voice to the municipalities that we suffer the greatest need sanitation due to our threat of financial risk, in order to comply with the measures and seeking solutions of financial stability ".
The totanero councilor recalled that in this legislature negotiations and ongoing negotiations are being carried out both with the Ministry of Finance and with the FEMP whose results "are giving results in municipal management at an economic and financial level and we are allowing maintenance, with guarantees, of public services in the municipality. "
