The third edition of the Professional Training Program in "Auxiliary Activities of Nurseries and Gardens" is still underway, organized by the Collective for Social Promotion El Candil.
This program is aimed at young people between 16 and 21 years old, who have not obtained the Compulsory Secondary Education Graduate.
The training program aims to provide students with personal, social and professional skills in the field of gardening and organic farming and encourage the insertion of these in more advanced levels of the Spanish Educational System, or its socio-labor insertion and subsequent incorporation into working life, responsible and autonomous.
The cession of spaces by the City of Totana for the development of the program has been fundamental to be able to incorporate into this training the necessary tools to acquire professional competences on the part of the students.
Specifically, the cession of an abandoned garden (located in front of Totana's Skate Park), has served to transform the space into an urban-ecological garden, becoming the main educational resource for teachers, and where students have made a excellent work during the last three years.
A work in the garden that has allowed expanding academic skills to issues of social and environmental involvement with the local community, improving the landscape of the municipality and generating sustainable dynamics in the urban core.
For the development of this activity, the Collective "El Candil" has the funding of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and with the collaboration of the City of Totana, through the Councils of Maintenance to the City and Infrastructures, Citizen Participation and Education.
