The Department of Environment urges the users and residents of the municipality of Totana to take the necessary precautions of vigilance and control to avoid the proliferation of tiger mosquitoes, following the instructions of the Ministry of Health of the Autonomous Community.
In this sense, the General Directorate of Public Health and Addictions, according to its competences, reminds that the city councils have the need to adopt the appropriate prevention measures to avoid this situation.
Likewise, it is taken into consideration after the celebration of All Saints' Day but also for the rest of the seasons, which entails the frequent practice of placing flowers in containers with water;
so it is advocated to take precautionary measures to prevent the breeding of tiger mosquito larvae in containers that accumulate water.
In cemeteries, parks and gardens, public and private patios, terraces and other landscape environments, mosquitoes find an adequate environment for their proliferation, thanks to the presence of containers and decorative objects that may contain standing water.
The Department of the Environment reminds that it is a problem of social awareness that citizens take corrective measures to prevent the reproduction of mosquitoes.
Therefore, it is considered necessary to disseminate and ensure the application of the following good practices to avoid larval rearing:
Drill the containers used to deposit the flowers and plants to prevent water from accumulating.
Use other resources to maintain the humidity of the flowers, such as placing a foam inside the vases to absorb water.
Use dried or plastic flowers as an alternative to natural flowers.
Remove the vases and other ornamental objects from the niches and other public or private spaces where water can accumulate.
In addition, it is reported that the tiger mosquito lays the eggs in containers with small masses of stagnant water, therefore, it is absolutely essential the collaboration of all and carry out the recommended advice to control their expansion.
It is also reported that in the Regional Mosquito Tigre Surveillance System is planned, as it is already communicating verbally for a few weeks in the reception of samples from the Vector Laboratory, stop cheating and take samples during the winter period, so that the last week of placement of traps is that of November 12, 2018.
