The Local Government Board of the City of Totana has approved a proposal from the Mayor requesting the Ministry of Agriculture the inclusion of the municipality of Totana in the relationship of affected municipalities with significant damage to crops as a result of the episode of rain and hail in the past August 16th.
In addition, the Ministry is urged to distribute among the table grape farmers an alternative product to the "Kaptan" so that all producers can receive aid.
According to the mayor, Andrés García, the Ministry of Agriculture has left out the farmers of Totana promised aid after the episode of storms last Thursday August 16 that brought rain, hail and strong gusts of wind causing numerous damages in different types of cultivation.
Last Tuesday, August 22, different news appeared in the press, referring to a visit by the councilor Miguel Ángel del Amor to some fallen vineyards due to the climatic events described above, in which he promised that from the Council, 1,556 kilograms would be provided to the town councils of a product to treat crops and promote the healing of woody areas with the aim of preventing the appearance of pests.
Among the list of municipalities affected was Totana and until last week, this municipality had not received any formal or informal communication from the Ministry.
The mayor explained that "several neighbors and agricultural organizations got in touch with this Mayor's Office to see how the announcement of the advisor was going to materialize, warning that this product is not authorized in table grape".
After several inquiries it was found that this product was actually going to be distributed among fruit farmers in the areas of Moratalla, Bullas and Cieza.
According to the data provided by the Ministry itself, one of the areas most affected by this cloud is that of Totana and Aledo and the main damage has occurred in grapevines of table grapes.
The mayor of Totana understands that "there are more than enough reasons for Totana not to be discriminated against in the distribution of this and other similar products that can help alleviate the damages and losses of the totanero farmers."
