The City of Totana, through the Municipal Service of Prevention of Drug Addiction of the Department of Social Welfare, joins the awareness campaign against the consumption of tobacco promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) on the occasion of the World Day Without Tobacco that is celebrated today May 31.
In this edition, the campaign focuses on the consequences of cardiovascular risk on health effects of their consumption, under the slogan "Tobacco and heart disease."
Tobacco use is an important risk factor for coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.
Despite the fact that the damage to heart health caused by smoking and the availability of solutions to reduce the morbidity and mortality it causes are well known, large sectors of the population are unaware that it is one of the main causes of cardiovascular diseases.
This year's World No Tobacco Day campaign aims to highlight the relationship between the consumption of tobacco products and heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases, and raise awareness among the population in general about the consequences for cardiovascular health of tobacco consumption and exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke.
In addition, we want to provide the general public, governments and other recipients with the possibility of committing themselves to promoting cardiac health by protecting people from the consumption of tobacco products;
and encourage countries to strengthen the implementation of the MPOWER anti-smoking measures contained in the WHO FCTC, the effectiveness of which has been demonstrated.
