The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and the councilman of Social Welfare, Juan Carrion, I have presented the Municipal Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction in the town, which aims to mobilize its own population to minimize the risk factors associated with styles unhealthy life and facilitate the development of protective factors against drug use.

This initiative, promoted by the Department of Social Welfare and which was approved unanimously by all corporate last March, aims to become a municipal response to the phenomenon of drug addiction and serve as a framework to guide, encourage, order, plan and coordinate the various initiatives, processes and prevention actions to carry out in the fields of education, leisure, family and community in general and with groups at risk of social exclusion because of their special problems.

This Plan, as stated by the mayor, emphasizes the central role and responsibility of the community trying to mobilize the same to minimize the risk factors related to unhealthy lifestyles and facilitate the development of protective factors against drug use.

The main purposes of the Plan are to avoid relegation at the age of onset for alcohol, snuff and other drugs among the youth of the town and reduce problematic drug use and loss of quality of life and consumer welfare , their families and the community.

To do this, Carrion explained that the Plan aims to develop a total of 70 performances following the strategies, according to Regional Plan on Drugs 2007-2010

The Plan is divided into three sections and provides an analysis of the consumption situation of legal and illegal drugs in the Region of Murcia, policy guidelines related to drug dependency ranging from as broad, as is the Spanish Constitution, plans and strictly regional programs, and areas of intervention, and programs be developed for each area and the actions planned for each program

This initiative will be carried out in the field of education, leisure, community, family, with a population at risk, workplace, research activities, and finally, coordinating the plan.

The council has also stated its intention to partners in this Plan to schools and parents' associations, health center, social institutions ATOFADE initiative, the Association of Parents and Children against drugs, NYPACOLD and youth and sports associations in the municipality, among others.

Finally, the mayor thanked and congratulated the work of technicians and municipal workers in this department, especially Francisco Pérez, Lucía Gallego and Ricardo Rodriguez.
