The Ombudsman visit Murcia Totana (03/11/2009)

The Ombudsman, José Pablo Ruiz Abellán, together with the Deputy Ombudsman, Raimundo Benzal, in the round of contacts with other councils, this morning visited Totana to make known to the residents of the municipality where their skills and how they can address complaints. Both institutional figures have been received at the Consistory, to maintain a working meeting, the Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, Councillor for Citizen Participation, Juan Carrion, and the defending Neighbor, Julia de la Peña.

The mayor, during his meeting with the media, explained that this figure is recognized as a public institution designated to protect the rights and freedoms of the residents, was sheltered by the Regional Assembly unanimously.

Martínez Andreo has expressed its satisfaction with the good management that are taking place that always looks after the interests of citizens, and that this figure is defending the city when you have a problem with any administration and exhausted all administrative channels.

For his part, Ruiz Abellán has stated that the City Council of Totana is always a spirit of partnership with them and although the figure of the Ombudsman has a critical role in the administration, the Consistory totanero actively involved in solving problems.

Thus, the Ombudsman explained that its main function is to collect the complaints of citizens on the administration to investigate these situations, direct, or suggest solutions to the various administrations.

In addition, as indicated by Ruiz Abellán, the Ombudsman may also initiate proceedings on its own initiative when it considers that a service or situation may affect the fundamental rights of citizens.

Ruiz Abellán has been reported that can not investigate matters pending a court, a citizen's interests against another, issues whose handling could cause injury to others or anonymous complaints.
