Closing of the program "Prevention of childhood obesity " (08/06/2009)

The Department of Health has closed the program "Prevention of Childhood Obesity" held with the students of 3 rd and 4 th of Primary few schools in the locality, with the celebration of a healthy breakfast, which has worked with the children how to eat properly and healthy.

During the last three months, which has carried out the last part of this program, taught by the nutritionist at the Department of Health information leaflets have been distributed to the importance of nutrition and physical activity for healthy living .

It has also been informed of the guidelines to follow to bring good nutrition habits trying to find food that lead to these ages, so that in this way we can work with them and change some of their usual habits.

In addition, there has been a food pyramid for each of the classes in each school, to raise awareness and make them see the importance of giving priority to certain foods to maintain good health.

Also has involved the parents of the students giving a talk on schools to inform them of the importance of diet, as these are the ones who can influence first in food that their children should wear

The program has been taught in those schools who applied to participate in it as are the schools "Tierno Galván", "Santiago", "Santa Eulalia", "Deitania", "San José", "Lebor, Cc Reina Sofia "CC La Milagrosa", "CEIB Guadalentín" and "School Children."

With this program, which was conducted over nine months, it has sought through surveys, discussions with parents, activities with children in schools, educate both children and their families about the importance to have healthy eating habits and the need to promote physical activity for healthy living.

Throughout these nine months have developed other activities, among which are the nutrition course on healthy habits for all those interested in making it the municipality, talks on different housewives associations, participation in the Week Health etc ...

Work is currently in the study of anthropometric values collected at the beginning of the program (weight, height, BMI ...) and nutrition of children in the locality, in order to establish if your current diet is right for the age that comprise these children.

These actions are being part of the program for Prevention of Childhood Obesity that develops in the city of Totana through the Department of Health and by a grant awarded by the Regional Service Training and Employment Department Education, Training and Employment and co-financed by the European Social Fund.

The recruitment of the dietitian includes a temporary nine months so will be running until the end of this June, being located in the Local Development Centre in New Street gardens, 5 in the industrial area of Totana, (968 425 003 ask Dolores Carrasco), where you can make any inquiry of any citizen issues related to healthy eating.
