The City Council joins the commemoration of National Cystic Fibrosis (22/04/2009)

The City Council worked with the Association Totana Murcia CF against an amount of 2,000 euros for the construction of a care center for people suffering from this disease in El Palmar

Totana City Council has joined the commemoration of National Cystic Fibrosis, held today under the slogan "You breathe without thinking ... I do not think only of breath" to claim a specialized care for patients and implementation of neonatal and preimplantation diagnosis in the whole country to improve diagnosis.

Thus, the councilman of Social Welfare, Juan Carrion, and Council Member of Health, Trini Cayuela, have joined the claim to the Spanish Federation of Cystic Fibrosis by a manifesto urging the State and Communities Autonomous improved therapies for this disease, the creation of multidisciplinary units in all referral hospitals and the creation of a national census of people with this disease as well as investing more financial and human resources for research of this disease, to improve the quality of life of these people and cure this disease.

Municipal officials have pointed out that the City of Totana signed a collaboration agreement with the Association Against Murcia CF to work with an amount of 2,000 euros in the eradication of this disease and the construction of the Cystic Fibrosis Center, located in El Palmar.

Through this initiative, the Consistory is intended, according to the councilman of Health reminded, "do everything possible to achieve the eradication of any health related problem, especially with this type of disease that have more than 100 families in the Region of Murcia, of which three of them belong to the town of Totana.

This is the first center in Spain of chest physiotherapy that has been built in order to "enhance the quality of life for these patients", said Carrion Tudela, who noted that this center dedicated to research and teaching, is a project who joined the site because "it defines the illusion of families with children affected by this disease and its struggle to have all the resources."
