To be closing the literacy workshop (Project Gelem) for people experiencing social exclusion (31/03/2009)

This initiative started from the Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle", funded by the Instituto Murciano Social Action has been developed in Totana from last December until March 31, 2009.

Gelem-Gelem project is the development of basic literacy workshop for people with any personal difficulties, social, family, etc., Who have left school at an early age.

The objective of this project was the launch of a space in which it committed itself to innovation in non-formal education as a tool for social advancement of people with social disadvantages.

In addition, other objectives are: to improve personal skills through increased training, using techniques and methods of engaging and innovative, and enhance the acquisition of social skills, while learning content is applicable to improving the quality of daily life.

This workshop literacy, which involved 12 people, not only involved the teaching of certain skills and content to better integrate into society, but at the same time opening the possibility for learning while having fun, with various activities were: film screenings, debates, discussions, etc, to continue learning in the company of people in the same neighborhood, among whom they live day by day, and a family atmosphere.

The training sessions have been developed in the social housing located in Calle Argentina de Totana and all participants could use to collect their diplomas awarded by the City Council of the City Social Welfare of Totana along with technical project managers for the Promotion of Social Class "The Candle."

From the Collective for Social Promotion "The Candle" is a very positive result has been obtained with the workshop developed.

So the result is very encouraging in terms of both quantitative data, as they have been 11 people involved and they all require the continuation of this initiative, as well as quality level as the participants observed a considerable change in attitudes and habits.

Has obtained an improvement in social competence of participants since the project began its training sessions, now we see people able to accept rules, taking turns to speak, solve problems or conflicts nonviolently, to participate actively in the development activities, ability to work in groups, more reading comprehension, vocabulary and basic spelling, etc..
