The Councillor for Industry, José Antonio Valverde Queen, has filed a motion to be debated next Tuesday, March 31, in which he proposes to urge the National Government to urgently adopt a range of measures to revive the automotive sector this time of crisis.

Last December, according to the mayor, car sales fell 49.9% over the same month last year, which means the third largest drop in history, and the year 2008 closed with a fall in total sales of 28% over 2007.

This sector, as noted Valverde Queen, is one of the areas of weight in our industry, and has a great importance for its ability to generate income and employment in the national economy, especially if we consider the auxiliary industry automotive sector, as "more than 50,000 jobs are being affected by the crisis in the automotive industry among car manufacturers, distributors, and component supplier industry."

Therefore, the Department of Industry proposes bonus for two years the amount of car tax by 100% for the least polluting vehicles still subject to tax.

In turn, and in addition, it is proposed to recover and expand the aid contained in the Plan Provide for cars that worked so well in the legislatures of the Popular Party government.

This motion also proposes the creation by the Government of Spain for a credit line for the ICO-SME companies who need to acquire vehicles for the smooth running of their business, so to renew the fleet of vehicles to improve road safety and improving the environment to be more efficient.

It is also proposed deferral for a period of 2 years of Social Security payments for companies in the automotive sector, so as to improve its financial situation of short and medium term, a factor which in the opinion of the mayor, "is strangling many businesses and can lead to layoffs in the industry."

Finally, the mayor believes that "to retrieve the deductions for investments in R + D + i in the corporation tax as it is a pressing need at the present time."
