Totana Mayor meets with over one hundred members of the Community of Irrigators of the Tajo-Segura (13/03/2009)

The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and the councilman of Agriculture and Water, John Pagan, gathered last night at the Centro Sociocultural Jail over a hundred members of the Community of Irrigators of the Tajo-Segura de la Comarca Guadalentín and attached as Sangonera locations to support all actions that are being developed prior to the conclusion of the demonstration called by the Central Union of Irrigation.

Furthermore, in the House for the month of February passed with the votes against the PSOE and IU + Greens, the amendment submitted by the PP to the motion of the Socialist Group in which it expressed support for the Tajo- Segura.

This proposal reiterates the Council's commitment to the defense of Totana the Tajo-Segura and thus their opposition to reducing the flow of Law and any date of expiry.

Also, the City agreed to address all deputies and senators from the district of the Region of Murcia, urging them to cast their vote against any rule or provision that would cause the expiration of the Tajo-Segura and that means a reduction of flow established by law, or endanger the viability.

Ultimately, the Consistory also urged the National Government the implementation of new water transfers from surplus basins, such as the Ebro River to the Segura, in order to cover our - recognized by law - water deficit.
