End of Draft Speech and Occupational Therapy funded by the SEF to work personal autonomy, which has benefited more than thirty persons with disabilities (10/07/2008)

The 34 people with intellectual disabilities who attend the Occupational Center "José Moya" were the direct beneficiaries of the project funded by the Regional Employment Service and Training for work autonomy in people with disabilities through service provided speech therapy and occupational therapy for nine months at the Centre.

In short, as manifested by professionals of the center itself, "have been over 100 people (including relatives) indirect recipients of this project, if we consider that what has worked with them affects their daily activity hence their family environment. "

The pillars of the project have been in speech therapy and occupational therapy.

The speech therapist has worked with students in individual sessions and in small groups, on improving interpersonal communication, first through oral language.

Through this work, as stated from the center, "we have seen important developments in the diction of many of the students."

Thus, those who have significant difficulties for the articulation of speech, has worked augmentative communication program, which are alternative systems of communication using the body support (hands, gestures, etc..) And hardware (drawings, images, photographs, etc.).

On the other hand, through the occupational therapist have worked in different areas (motor, cognitive, social, sensory, etc..) In order to promote independence for people in activities of daily living.

An important role of the occupational therapist has been related to postural hygiene tasks and user ergonomics.

Similarly, this professional has done advisory work for the election of technical aids for students at the school: electric wheelchair, crane to move the people dependent, etc.

This project has been funded almost entirely by the Regional Employment Service and Training has developed since the October 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 with 34 people with mental disabilities who attend the occupational center.
