Councilwoman Crafts, María Isabel Sánchez Ruiz, recalled the contest for the election of a representative piece of pottery from Totana whose main objective to promote creativity in the field of ceramics and promote the name of a municipality Totana potter, whose deadline for applications is open until June 30.
The aim of this pottery piece is to "identify a municipality Totana potter, both inside and outside our territory," said the mayor, who recalled that Totana is the only municipality in the Region as part of the Spanish Association of Cities Ceramics (AECC), consisting of forty Spanish municipalities and aims to bring together all the Spanish cities with historical ties to the ceramic and who are willing to increase their productive ceramic heritage or those activities and institutions related to ceramics. Moreover, one of the resolutions adopted by this entity was the permanent exhibition at the Museum of the City of Argentona (Barcelona), home of that national association, a representative piece of the pottery tradition of each municipality.
The contest "Choosing a representative piece of pottery from Totana", whose main objective to promote creativity in the field of ceramics and promote the name of a municipality Totana potter, were approved by the Local Government Board in its latest meeting.
The contest is open to artisans who have established a workshop in the territory of the town of Totana, featuring pieces made in the workshop, and the technique used will be of free choice.
The works submitted must be based on the traditional bases pieces of pottery totanera and parts may be made in various sizes, provided that not exceeding 60 inches in length and have a minimum of 10 cm.
Each artisan may submit up to 3 designs.
Registration applications must be sent by check to the Department of the City of Totana Crafts before 30 June 2008
The pieces, which must be submitted to the City of Totana before July 7, will participate in an exhibition that will run from July 7 to July 14, the day that the jury render its decision, selecting the winning piece, and the exhibition will take place in the Plenary Hall of the local consistory.
The jury, among others will comprise the Mayor, Councillor Crafts, a technician from the Department of Handicrafts, a representative from each of the four associations of artisans of Totana, not participating in the contest, the Director General Crafts Region of Murcia where or technical delegate, a representative of the media and a representative of the tourism sector
The piece selected as the winner of this contest, then be prepared and distributed by all potters participating in this contest and must supply, among others, the demand by the City of Totana, being chosen as the winning piece institutional protocol object .
