More than 10,000 people participated in the procession back to the patron saint of Totana (07/01/2016)

More than 10,000 people, according to local police sources, participated in the procession back to the patron saint of Totana, Santa Eulalia de Merida, his hermitage in the Sierra de Espuña;

and they joined hundreds also gathered all day in traditional festive outdoor living which took place in the vicinity of the Sanctuary.

From the morning there were many pilgrims who gathered in the chapel next to the sites enabled for the holy, and given the good weather that occurred during the day was a very participatory pilgrimage.

The patron saint of Totana returned in procession to the chapel Espuña after remaining from the 8th of December in the city for employers and holidays, coinciding today with the local feast day.

The festive day began at eight in the morning with a Mass celebrated in the church of Santiago El Mayor by the pastor, Jose Ruiz Garcia, a crowded temple;

and an hour later the image across the front door of the parish to start your journey of three hours to the sanctuary.

Thousands of pilgrims of all ages formed a human flood the road clothing image of Santa Eulalia on his way back to the chapel, during which they have not stopped playing the songs of the gangs, again showing affection for his patron.

To the pilgrims who left the square of the Constitution after the farewell Mass people joined in the hamlet of El Rulo and along the entire route;

as well as the hundreds who waited impatiently near the shrine to the arrival of the image.

After the Mass celebrated in the atrium, the arrival of the statue to the shrine, many of them enjoyed the festive day and living around traditional cooked dishes, such as rice dishes and crumbs in the areas designated for the occasion;

as well as traditional sausages and homemade sweets with friends and family.

This year the event has been transmitted, as a novelty, by the regional public channel "7 Television Murcia" for all spectators of the autonomous region, the program has lasted for over an hour, thanks to the efforts of Totana City Council and the Santa Foundation.

More than 70 members of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Fire Brigade, Civil Protection, Red Cross and environmental security agents watched over the procession during jornad for it to be held without any incident register consideration.
