The mayor warns of the danger of flooding exists in the rural town of Las Ventas and the Royal Route (07/08/2015)

The Mayor of Totana, Juan José Canovas, warns of the danger that exists in flood homes in the rural town of Sales Paretón and El Camino Real area in case of flood in the river Guadalentín if the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS ) does not come before a possible cold drop phenomenon, the settlement of an opening caused by a major landslide occurred in this infrastructure.

Channel Paretón is an infrastructure that diverts water from the dam to the river Guadalentín promenade of mulberry trees, toward the coast of Mazarrón, in order to alleviate its banks when torrential rains and flooding occur, and thus avoid also damage at its mouth with the River Segura in Murcia.

The Guadalentín river is one of the most aggressive by their ability to grow the tributaries flow in less time, which would cause a flood caused by a cold drop phenomenon as a result of the high temperatures this summer have caused concern among neighbors area.

The danger is produced by a large landslide that every day is greater in the channel that has been a major opening in the ground, also helped by the nests of rabbits that proliferate in the area.

To this situation is added the risk that if the channel is acolmatara by an overflow there is no regulatory dam and flood further, safely, all core housing sales and Kings Road are in a lower level , returning water back to the natural course of the river Guadalentín.

The mayor visited the area several times and met with affected residents;

and so the July 29 requested a meeting to address this issue with the president of the CHS, Miguel Angel Ródenas, which eventually will take place next September 9th.

The neighbors are alarmed by the proximity September time when these atmospheric phenomena occur and considering that there is a real risk of cold drop by the high temperatures this year, and the risk that greater gap opens that would endanger their homes in case of flood.

It also represents an added contingency because the river flows would lead to the natural riverbed Guadalentín, eliminating the possibility of evacuation before reaching the city of Murcia, by the Reguerón.

The mayor, with the help of neighboring residents in the area, seeks to explain the problem to the CHS in order to proceed with the repair and maintenance of the canal to prevent further trances in sales of Paretón and Camino Real area in case of flood.

Also, he added that the solution Canovas is now feasible with two or three concrete tanks, as if left to oblivion there is a risk of gradual deterioration;

and so he did also informed the President of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, in his first official meeting.
