Preventive device in the Pilgrimage of Santa Eulalia - Totana (10/01/2014)

The Traffic Police of the Region of Murcia deployed a preventive device operating during the afternoon of January 7, during the Pilgrimage of Santa Eulalia Totana (Murcia).

As before, his goal was to ensure road safety and the normal development of these large events.

In such a device a total of 591 breath tests were performed with the result of nine positive as a result of which he was arrested and brought to justice a driver, and the remaining eight reported to the Provincial Traffic Murcia.

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that failure to reach record any accidents in the area affected by the device.

The establishment of sobriety checkpoints by the Civil Guard responds to the requirements of the Road Safety Strategy adopted by the DGT for the decade 2011-2020, as a priority aimed at reducing accidents on our roads, given that driving under the influence of alcohol greatly increases the risk of accidents.

The offense of driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages at higher rates to 0.60 milligrams is enshrined in Article 379 of the Penal Code and is punishable alternatively with imprisonment of 3-6 months or a fine of 6 to 12 months, or work on behalf of the community of 31 to 90 days and in any case, with deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and motorcycles for over 1 and up to 4 years time.

Moreover driving motor vehicle or moped rates exceeding alcohol 0'25 mg / l (0.15 mg / l, novice and professional drivers) and to 0.60 mg / l, or after consuming drugs or narcotics, carries a financial penalty of 500 euros and the loss of up to six points from driving.

In cases of driving under the influence of alcohol, the affected vehicles are immobilized by the Civil Guard until their drivers are able to continue their journey, once they have lowered the BAC level within permissible limits, either take over other drivers of vehicles that are authorized, after verification that they are able to do so.

The Civil Guard reiterates its message to those drivers, reckless and foolhardy, despite campaigns and warnings DGT, drive after drinking or taking drugs, noting that throughout the year 2014 will continue to intensify alcohol tests and drugs, at any time of day or night, in order to raise public awareness of the inconsistency of these substances in the driving of vehicles to ensure road safety on our roads.
