More than 200 schools in Totana schools participate in the activities organized within the "I, European citizen" (17/04/2013)

More than 200 schools in Totana schools today participated in activities organized within the "I, European citizen", promoted by the Directorate General of the European Union and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of the Presidency, held in eight municipalities in Murcia coincide with the European Year of Citizens.

The initiative was inaugurated with a keynote address "Youth in Action" that took place in the IES "Prado Mayor", and the technicians from the Autonomous Region have released the rights that European citizens and the best way to enjoy them, essential to the development of the European project.

The opening of this conference has been the responsibility of the Director General of the European Union, Carmen Sandoval, Mayor of Totana, Isabel Maria Sanchez, and the Councillor for Education, Josefa Maria Sanchez.

'I, European citizen' is developed in Totana today and tomorrow with information days in the school participating schools in Totana.

The pupils in San Jose, Deitania, La Milagrosa, Tierno Galvan, Guadalentin and Reina Sofia are visiting the classroom, which has a screen the documentary 'We are Europe', in which a group of citizens from the region tell their experience in relation to European policies, its institutions and the exercise of the rights recognized in the Statute of the European Union.

The Ministry of the Presidency, through the Directorate General of the European Union Foreign Affairs has released this information campaign to raise awareness in the municipalities of the region the rights that European citizens.

'I, European citizens' starts with an information day to bring students through activities, workshops, audiovisual and information materials, the European Union, its institutions and its policies closer to citizens.

This day municipal campaign includes briefings on the rights of EU citizens, the Europe Direct Network Murcia, the EURES Network, the Youth in Action Programme, European projects developed in Totana and a documentary.

The authorities have explained that this is to increase the degree of awareness of the right to reside freely within the territory of the European Union, the benefits which include the rights and EU policies, encourage active participation in the European project and encourage the debate on increasing cohesion and mutual understanding between the citizens of the European Union.

The campaign emphasizes the EU citizenship, a concept that is defined in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, what rights its citizens as well as the organizational structure and functioning of the European institutions and policies.

With the campaign, the regional government has mobilized a mobile classroom that travel to different schools of Totana and cultural center "Jail", lasting from one to three days in each municipality.

The classroom, which has a screen the documentary 'We are Europe', in which a group of citizens in the region relate their experience in relation to European policies, its institutions and the exercise of the rights recognized in the Charter of European Union.

Europe, close to the citizen

To show that the European Union is very present in the lives of the citizens of the region, analyze municipal services and infrastructure that have been improved thanks to European funding, and projects that have been carried out by each locality with funding Europe.

Policies, employment and the free movement of workers within the European Union will be other issues to be addressed as part of this initiative.
