Once again, following a tradition that goes back to the early eighteenth century, the residents of the County of La Huerta de Totana, have come to his hermitage, to celebrate the day of the birth of Jesus and the beginning of the New Year.

The Altar of the Chapel is always dominated by the image of the Virgin of La Huerta, but during Christmas time, is incorporated, the representation of the birth of Jesus.

The person responsible for this task, which began for more than two decades, is the neighbor of La Huerta: Luis Gonzalez Perez.

For the preparation of the birth of this Christmas, Luis has used many elements that were used by the huertanos of yesteryear and today are among the objects that remain covered by the dust of time, in the attic of the residents of La Huerta .

In this birth, we can find bags and bags covering the ground, simulating hangings old crib walls, half bushel as a cradle for the child; carbides and candles to light the manger, including a candle lantern from a carriage of s. XVII, and many other objects that were common in the homes of La Huerta: horseshoes, boredom, a bowl, a wooden suitcase, a roll, a mallet to chop esparto, a sheet of carbon, a strap, a gutter, a cowbell, ..., and whose sound has collerón heard again this year at the Hermitage, to signal the start of the celebration, and also during the Consecration.

Also new for the new year, has been placing a metal roof,-which has been placed outside the wall attached to the letter of the Hermitage-whose purpose is to provide a shaded area, which will certainly make your stay more comfortable of the participants, the activities of September employer.
