Agriculture informs owners of palm trees on the treatment that the city done to prevent the plague of red palm weevil (05/07/2012)

The Department of Agriculture, responding to the agreements reached in the Standing Committee Monitoring of red palm weevil, informs the owner of the palms on the treatment that the City done to prevent the plague of red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus).

Currently, preventative treatments are being made of all municipally owned palm trees and traps were installed sampling to estimate the density of infestation in the municipality.

In the last six months, according to the mayor, have been used 28,000 liters of broth in Canary Island date palm palms, 19.6 liters of product per copy of Palm City.

Sources from the Department explained to the owners of palm trees is recommended to use a book of product per thousand liters and that the products recommended are thiophanate methyl 45% (suspension concentrate) and imidacloprid 20% (soluble concentrate).

In the first case, thiophanate methyl in 45%, is used in agricultural crops and plantations and its function is fungicide.

It acts on the anthracnose diseases, Botrytis, Fusarium, Oidium and authorized for use on ornamentals.

The dose is 100 centrilitros per 100 liters.

In the place of imidacloprid 20% (Insesticida) is used on crops, agricultural plantations, parks, gardens, outdoor gardening home.

The recommended dose is 50 or 75 centrilitros per 100 liters.

The "red palm weevil" is a plague that affects the palms, mainly canary date palms and Washingtonias.

The first outbreak appeared in the Region of Murcia in 2005 and in 2006 officially declared the existence of plague in the Autonomous Community, which carried a significant risk to plant health.
