Totana City Council joins the European Commission initiative to reduce the consumption of renewable energy.
The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, has participated in the ratification of the accession to the Covenant of Mayors, which converts to Murcia in the first region in which all municipalities will join this initiative by the European Commission to reduce consumption energy and emissions of greenhouse gases and promoting renewable energy.
The event, chaired by the Minister for Universities and Enterprise, Salvador Marin, also attended by representatives of 45 municipalities in the region, Vice President of the European Parliament and member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in Brussels, Alejo Vidal -Quadras.
and the representative of the Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission responsible for the creation of this project, Roman Doubrava.
The Covenant of Mayors is an initiative promoted by the Directorate General for Energy European Commission to involve local councils, as an institution closer to its citizens in the fight against global warming by improving energy efficiency, reduction greenhouse emissions and the production and use of cleaner energy.
Marin said "the opportunities and benefits of this initiative for the whole of society Murcia help achieve a more sustainable environmentally and economically, based on innovation and technology."
Following accession to the Covenant, municipalities should develop a local plan in which each consistory express its targets for energy saving, utilization of renewable sources and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) in order to meet the challenges that each local plan set.
The Regional Agency for Energy Management (Argema) structure and manage the support of the Covenant in the Region of Murcia, for what is available to municipalities www.pactoalcaldesregmurcia.com attached web page, a tool to learn how to develop inventory of CO2 emissions and to be added examples of good practice.
It also provides technical advice and support within the Comprehensive Plan for Energy Saving and Efficiency in the Region of Murcia.
In addition, the Community, through Argema, is organizing the International Conference on Municipal Energy Plans, which provide municipalities developing their initiatives and promote greater involvement of all citizens.
