The Department of Education and Public Safety started the awareness campaign against truancy "Do not leave your empty chair (18/02/2011)

The Department of Education and Public Safety have initiated during the month of February, the awareness campaign against truancy "Do not leave your empty chair", organized by the Municipal Service Control Prevention and Truancy.

The Councillor for Education, Trinidad Cayuela, has reported that these talks are being given at 1 º and 2 º ESO of the various schools of the municipality that have requested them.

The purpose of these briefings is to raise awareness about the importance of school to attend class regularly, the serious consequences arising from truancy and guidance for the students to prevent such situations.

Cayuela and stressed the need for maintaining close cooperation with the local police in this regard, since the talks are being issued jointly by the technique of truancy and out of the local police.

Thus, students are informed of actions undertaken by the police on truancy, and some of them, to detect reduced absenteeism outside schools during school hours, identify, verify the reason have been absent from school, take them to heart, to inform the tutor and complete a form for collecting data on the situation arising Truancy Service for the carrying out appropriate actions.

The Councillor for Education stressed that truancy is a risk indicator for the child, because in the short term is educational failure and subsequent dropout will result in the medium and long term in a serious social problem and may lead to situations social exclusion and crime.

It has also recalled that under the Law on Legal Protection of Minors, any person having knowledge that a child is unschooled or does not attend class regularly should make it known to the competent authorities, may do so at the Municipal Service Prevention Truancy and Control Center located in the Sociocultural "Jail."

Finally, said that the laws in this regard have been tightened since, from prosecution, has accused five families because the parents have consented to the truancy of their children, imposing financial penalties and work to benefit the community.
