The city of Totana rejected the introduction of toll Eurovignette (13/08/2010)

Totana City Council rejects the application and implementation of toll Eurovignette the professional sector of road transport by the unforeseeable consequences that may result in their already battered economies, preventing the disappearance of firms and workers engaged in this activity.

This rate would essentially public highway tolls to vehicles over 3,500 kilos of weight of ten cents per mile traveled, which is a report of up to 3,300 million euros a year in the battered state coffers.

For this reason, the councilor for Transport, Sergio Lopez, after contacts with Totana Transport Association, will raise to the full next September a motion which also urged the Ministry of Development to open lines of dialogue, negotiation and consensus with professional organizations to provide alternatives that do not conflict with interests and commitments entered into at the time with the sector and that directly impact consumer chain.

Totanero mayor's proposal, which is to translate the concerns of over 70 professionals that brings together the Association in Totana, aims to create a working committee composed of all parties concerned to consider other mechanisms of proposals to address conservation of high-capacity road network and allocate a portion to convert the industry to be more competitive.

This tax, which is already being applied in some European countries would supposedly offset internal costs (construction and maintenance) and external (environmental pollution) of road infrastructure.

To Lopez, the idea of charging more to those who damaged the roads to pay their conservation again hurt the weakest, in this case, the road hauliers, who in 2008 and paralyzed the country with strikes in the battered sector.

The Councillor for Transport said that, as professionals we have confirmed the wheel of heavy goods by road, this measure of the Ministry of Development of the National Government can be forced to leave this activity to the vast majority of carriers associated with this organization, since, according to estimates, would increase its spending by more than 3,500 euros per month on average as appropriate.

This tax will hurt the whole freight transport sector, above all, impact on the business of small independent carriers, especially in an era in which almost all charge below cost.

Lopez added that the costs borne by carriers and rose in the first quarter of this year between 1% and 3.1%, according to the Ministry, making it very difficult not to find professionals who are not in the red and working for the simple fact that being unemployed would lose even more.

For the mayor of the sector, this difficult situation, with the implementation of this tax, it "unaffordable and unacceptable" the continued existence already complicated by high fuel costs, maintenance and Social Security, coupled with the physical pressure generating mental practice.
