The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, visited Totana today (19/02/2018)

The Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, visited Totana today in order to see first hand the projects, promoted with public aid, which is being developed by the Collective for Social Promotion "El Candil" in this municipality.

The head of the regional government, accompanied by the mayor, Andrés García, and representatives of this association, visited the facilities in which "El Candil" carries out its training projects in Totana: the Training Center in the social center of San Roque and Offices in the Menorca street of this town.

The visit was also attended by the managing director of the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS), Verónica López, the first deputy mayor, Juan José Cánovas, and members of the Totanera Municipal Corporation.

In the Training Center of the Collective "El Candil", in the social center of the district of San Roque, the technicians of this entity presented the "Labor Project, a step towards employability" and had an exchange of impressions with the students of the Course of IT, framed in said project.

In addition, the counselor made a visit to the PFP classroom of Auxiliary Activities in Nurseries and Gardens, where he learned about the development of this training initiative and the work that the participants do in the ecological urban garden.

Subsequently, the owner of Family and Equality, whose department promotes these programs through the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS) and community funds, has moved to the premises where "El Candil" has its offices in Menorca street.

There, he has learned the ins and outs of the "Project Labor 2.0, Youth Guarantee", where he has coincided with students of the Skills, Social and Pre-employment Skills Course, framed in this program.

It has also been able to have knowledge of the Project of Socio-educational Intervention with Families and Minors of Risk (program of Fight against the Poverty), in which more than fifty hundred of boys and girls participate every afternoon;

At the same time, the report of activities developed during the year 2017 and the impact of these training and social and labor integration activities has been presented.

During the visit, the people in charge of the Collective "El Candil" highlighted the importance of the collaboration of the two institutions present in the visit, thanks to which all the activities and projects in this municipality can be developed.

Likewise, the need to continue counting, on the one hand, with the financing that is received from the regional government and that comes to suppose more than 75% of the annual budget of the entity, was highlighted;

and on the other hand, with the infrastructural support that the City Council of Totana does, since thanks to the cession of spaces, the activities can be developed in suitable conditions.

In this regard, the recent cession of the offices located in Menorca Street, in the neighborhood of La Cerámica, was valued as especially positive, having supposed an increase in the quality of attention to the people served.

The Ministry, through the Murcia Institute of Social Action (IMAS), contributes 169,500 euros co-financed by the European Social Fund for employment integration programs and improvement of employability of people at risk of social exclusion and for young people, and already have 157 beneficiaries .

These programs include actions directed to the labor insertion, and the itineraries promote the acquisition of personal and work habits and competencies, overcome difficulties and social accompaniment throughout the process.

It has also been granted a Help for Insertion Programs to facilitate the hiring of people receiving the Basic Insertion Income.

The program 'Labor: a step towards employability' has a budget of 78,447 euros and 91 students participated in it.

The counselor explained that "all participants are people belonging to groups in situations of social vulnerability, with very low levels of employability, so it is very satisfying to see that their training is improved, which undoubtedly increases their chances of accessing the labor market and, therefore, their living conditions ".

49 new contracts have been signed, corresponding to 44.5 percent of the participants in the previous edition of the courses.

As for the 'Labor 2.0' program, it is intended for 65 young people, between 16 and 29 years old, beneficiaries of the National Youth Guarantee System, who are in a situation of special vulnerability due to job insecurity or unemployment.

Their actions are aimed at finding a decent job, improving the employability and the personal development of the participants.

In addition, it influenced training in ICT, equal opportunities and non-discrimination, gender equality, basic skills, self-employment and entrepreneurship, labor market and personal image.

This program has achieved 23 labor insertions, out of a total of 55 participants in the previous edition.

'El Candil' is a non-profit organization constituted in 1994 with the aim of achieving the promotion and development of the person in all its facets within the community.

During the first years he began his activity in the socio-educational area, mainly with children and youth.

Currently, its areas of activity are the promotion of children and youth, attention to families, training and employment, as well as social participation and volunteering.
