The PSOE de Totana joins, today, December 1, to the commemoration of the World Day to Combat AIDS (01/12/2017)

Socialists remind that it is necessary to raise awareness and act in the face of the global epidemic caused by HIV infection and that they will continue to demand the repeal of RD 16/2012 Law, the recovery of the right to health protection and health care as a right of citizenship.

In Spain, with the unilateral approval of Royal Decree Law 16/2012 by the Government of Rajoy, hundreds of thousands of people were expelled from the right to health in a decision that was a huge step backwards and should be rectified as soon as possible. recover the lost universality.

From the PSOE, they affirm that AIDS can only end as a threat to public health, if these rights are treated as a priority of global health, so that quality health care is available and accessible to all, without exclude anyone.

Without going any further, the data is chilling, since almost 2 million people contracted HIV infection in 2016 around the world and some 76.1 million people contracted HIV infection since the beginning of the epidemic, almost 37 million people living with HIV today.

This year, the PSOE joins the campaign #myrighttohealth that will provide information on the right to health and its importance in people's lives and will aim to increase their visibility around the need to achieve the full realization of the right to health. Health for all and in all places.

Although remarkable progress is being made in the treatment of HIV, socialists consider a comprehensive approach to policies related to HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases that include research, prevention and assistance, as well as international cooperation, essential. vindicating the appropriation in the General Budgets of the economic resources destined to these policies.

Likewise, they claim the recovery of the Secretariat of the National Plan on AIDS to lead the coordination in the fight against the epidemic.

Finally, they recognize the courage and determination of people living with HIV who, day by day, demand and claim their rights, getting that, around 20.9 million people, could have access to these vital medicines.

In addition, from the PSOE are grateful for the effort and the magnificent work of all health professionals in their daily work in the prevention and early treatment aimed at people affected by HIV, health organizations and patients, as well as citizen groups and social organizations that have been struggling with intensity and effectiveness for years in a decisive way.
