The vaccination campaign against influenza begins today in the Region of Murcia and is dispensed in the corresponding health centers, by appointment (14/11/2017)

Last year only 47% was vaccinated and 27% among health personnel

The Ministry of Health starts today the campaign against the flu 2017/2018 that will last until next January 31, for which they have acquired225,000 doses of the flu vaccine and 20,000 more against the pneumococcus.

The vaccines will be dispensed in a total of 287 authorized posts in all SMS health centers, private centers, residences or prisons.

The objective is that at least two out of every three people over 64 years old get vaccinated during this campaign, compared to 47 percent who did it last year, and for that, some 200,000 telephone messages will be sent out, reminding us of the importance of getting vaccinated.

People interested in getting vaccinated can go to their health center, to any of the two in Totana, or call the previous appointment phone of the Health Service 902 079 079.

In addition, chronic illnesses, pregnant women and workers in health and education centers, or security and emergency forces are called to be vaccinated.

Of course, among health personnel last year only 27% were vaccinated

Last year about 190,000 people were vaccinated against the flu in the region, and it is insisted that this vaccine is the best weapon against a disease that can lead to long periods of hospitalization and even death.

The Ministry of Health does not expect a particularly aggressive flu or a pandemic of virus mutations.

In the Region, the date has been delayed a bit because the peak is expected to occur between the end of January and the beginning of February.

In addition, some tips should be remembered to prevent the spread of the disease, such as using tissues, washing your hands often and covering your mouth with the fold of the codoal coughing or sneezing.

Influenza is an acute infectious disease of the respiratory tract caused by a virus.

Among its most important characteristics is its high contagious capacity from one person to another.

It usually occurs in winter and in an epidemic form, that is, each year we face a season in which there can be a great activity and circulation of the influenza virus (predominantly in the months of November to March).

Influenza is an important health problem, both because of the mortality that it can cause directly or indirectly, and because of the complications it can cause and the economic and social costs that it causes.

The proportion of the population affected during the annual epidemics ranges from 5 to 15% in large populations, and it is higher than 50% in closed population groups such as school boarding schools or asylums.
