Winning Totana IU will present to the September plenary a motion to "show our rejection of the practice of` Fraking 'in the Region of Murcia " (31/08/2017)

"After learning from the regional press that it is intended to launch this technical pollutant in the Northwest area, we are forced to re-show our rejection of what we believe to be a crime against Health and the Environment"

On April 25, 2013, Izquierda Unida presented before this plenary an initiative so that both our Municipality and our Region could be free of the Hydraulic Fracture Technique, also known as `Fracking'.

"After the press announcement that it is intended to implement this technique of extraction in the area of the Nororeste, Vega Alta and the Altiplano, we are forced to return to show our rejection before what seems to us a crime against Health and Environment, as it would affect the pollution of our waters and would have real effects on the population. "

'Fracking' is a technique for the unconventional extraction of gas consisting of a series of vertical and horizontal perforations in the subsoil to cause fractures in the rocky strata containing the gas to a depth of between 3,000 and 5,000 meters.

Therefore, perforations can affect the most superficial layers, where large water bags are found.

Through these perforations high pressure is injected a mixture of water, sand and hundreds of Chemicals that disintegrate the subsoil and allow to release the associated gas in these porous and impermeable rocks.

This technique is therefore very invasive and aggressive with the environment and entails a series of health and environmental impacts.

With regard to their effects and impacts on the Natural Environment and the Environment, the possible repercussions are the emission of pollutant gases, contamination of underground aquifers, uncontrolled wastewater discharge, air pollution, small and medium intensity earthquakes, pollution Acoustics and landscape impacts.

The Ministry of Energy has reopened a door to the 'Fracking' in the Region of Murcia by authorizing for the second time the prospecting program to be carried out by the multinational 'Oil & Gas Capital' in Calasparra, Cieza and Jumilla.

The Central Government has already approved the project in 2013, and has now approved certain changes requested by the company.

According to the new authorization of the surveys will be developed from 2018.

We understand that these research permits are being granted behind the backs of the citizenry, which totally ignores the substance of an issue that can affect the environment that sustains us, the local productive fabric and the social organization of

Our Municipalities.

On the other hand, we have no knowledge of the details of this technique, including the toxicity of the chemicals used in injections to the subsoil and the overall environmental impact that the implementation of prospective initiatives would have in our territory.

In addition, this authorization passes over the motion against the Fracking that was approved in the Regional Assembly, seeing as the Central Government of Mariano Rajoy gives "carte blanche" to this polluting practice before the Regional Government passivity.

The new drilling program presented by the company would carry out surveys at Sinclar de Calasparra, a strategic area for our water resources.

"As we claimed years ago when it was wanted to implement this practice in our territory, to win Totana IU is essential to protect agriculture, livestock, water before an activity that opens the door to the contamination of our resources and is being managed with Obscurantism and back of citizenship.
