The competent administrations will ask for help to recover the damages caused as a consequence of the last rainy season (23/12/2016)

The Mayor of Totana, Juan José Cánovas, is going to raise a motion to the ordinary plenary session in December to request the competent administrations to compensate for the damage caused to infrastructures and farms as a result of the last torrential rainstorm.

In the motion of the Mayor's Office, it is proposed to show solidarity with the affected municipalities of Murcia and to express the willingness to assist them with the resources available to the City of Totana.

Likewise, it is suggested to carry out a valuation of damages in municipal and public property infrastructures to request the Government Delegation in Murcia and the Autonomous Community for aids that replenish and allow the replacement of infrastructures, sanitation networks, and so on.

In addition, the Government of the Nation and the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura will be urged to speed up the construction of the Lébor rambla dam and repair the El Paretón Canal, which diverts the flows of the Guadalentín river to The Sierra de las Moreras, in Mazarrón.

In the motion of the Mayor's Office, it is recalled that a dead person, hundreds of people evacuated and destroyed in the streets and homes of the whole Region has been, for the moment, the result of the devastating torrential rains that has raged with the Region of Murcia during the past weekend.

A temporary unknown since 1945 that even forced to intervene to the Emergency Military Unit (UME), which mobilized 210 troops from Bétera (Valencia) and Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) in the case of the Mar Menor region, the most affected .

The storm, one of the strongest that has been remembered for years in this region, left scenes of panic in different localities of the autonomous community, especially in areas of Mar Menor, Campo de Cartagena and Vega del Segura, some of the Affected and with greater material damages.

Classes were suspended for one day (in some cases more) because of the existing threat, and numerous roads were cut off from the regional network.

The abundant rainfall registered in the Region of Murcia surpassed in some areas 200 liters per square meter, causing rivers and flooding, with scary scenes of neighbors who were forced to leave their homes in the middle of the night, in the face of the risk of That the water will take them ahead, cars anchored and basements converted into quagmires have been the stamp of these days.

The aftermath of the storm is long.

The priority is to mitigate the damages suffered by the population, and in parallel there is another front with the crops destroyed, with large losses that are still to be evaluated.

The damages left by the cold drop storm in the Region are estimated at an initial estimate of more than 57 million euros.

This is the amount contained in the text raised to the Government of the Nation for the declaration of catastrophic area of the areas most affected by floods.

To this figure will be added the amount calculated by the municipalities of the most disadvantaged areas.

In the case of the municipality of Totana, the rains have generally been beneficial because of their intensity and frequency but also have caused significant material damages in public infrastructures and agricultural and livestock farms, albeit of smaller amount than in other municipalities of the coast of Murcia.

The main damages originated by the well-known exit of the boulevard of Lébor when these torrential rains that produce the destruction of large agricultural and livestock farms as well as of infrastructures by landslides and drags due to the action of the force of the flows.

"In Totana, the three ramblas that cross the urban area left with a lot of volume causing damages in farms and flooding of farmland. As a result of the rains episode had to cut some roads of the secondary network of roads in the municipal term" , Indicates the proposal.

Given the complicated economic situation that Totana is experiencing, following this episode of rains, the motion insists that "we need help both for the agricultural sector and for damaged infrastructure, such as the deterioration of rural, road and other roads."
