Remember compulsory rabies vaccination of dogs, cats and ferrets and identification by microchip dogs (01/09/2016)

The Department of Health reminds compulsory rabies vaccination of dogs, cats and ferrets and microchip identification by dogs, whose work can be performed in any of the existing professional veterinary clinics in this county.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects mammals and therefore man also, so in order to prevent cases of human rabies vaccination of the animal population that can act as a carrier is necessary, and thus have of an adequate level of immunization in the animal population that lives in the human environment.

As a result of an outbreak of rabies in the province of Toledo in previous years, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, through the publication of the Order of July 25, 2013, of the Ministries of Agriculture and Water and health and Social Policy, established this measure for the control and eradication of rabies in animals and prevention of risks to public health.

In this regard, he sets compulsory annual rabies vaccination of domestic animals of human habitat, and specifically canine, feline and mustélidos species (ferrets) located in the region of Murcia.

Rabies vaccination must necessarily be done to dogs and ferrets from 3.5 months of life, cats from 5 months of life, and proceed to revaccination annually.

In the case of kittens they reach this age after the period established as mandatory or adult vaccination dates as last year occurred last such period, vaccination will take place according to the usual guidelines for physicians responsible.

The rabies vaccination is considered compulsory treatment in dogs, cats and ferrets, so the non-application of the same is considered serious and punishable offense by the City Council.

Similarly, mandatory animal identification of dogs recalled in a maximum period of 3 months or a month after its acquisition by implanting a microchip.

Vaccination and identification are performed in any of the veterinary clinics in the locality.
