Within the Program Strategy and Integrated Sustainable Urban Development (EDUSI) (26/02/2016)

municipal and technical authorities have recently held a coordination meeting of the project "Regenerate Totana" (challenge), under the, funded by the European Union Strategy Programme Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development (EDUSI).

In this meeting they have discussed the screening of proposals for the future, as the execution of a garden-space public in the Cañada Zamora;

the future connection with hiking trails and via the sites of La Bastida and Canvas Strip, as well as the enhancement of tourism and handicrafts in Totana.

In the same attended by the mayor, Juan Jose Canovas, the first deputy mayor, Andrés García Cánovas, and concejalesVíctor Balsas, Carlos Ballester yAntonia Camacho Crespo, who have addressed, along with technical alternatives to regenerate Totana with the participation citizens and social groups.

The municipal government, along with municipal technicians involved in the field, have already held several meetings in order to coordinate actions and measures to be taken in this regard.

The EDUSI is a program that will be funded by the ERDF 2014/2020 sustainable growth program, whose main objective is to improve the quality of life for residents in an integrated manner;

ie including aspects ranging from social cohesion and the fight against poverty, to the promotion of low-carbon economy, environmental sustainability and resource optimization.

The Consistory is already involved in the development of its Strategic Plan with the horizon since 2020, based on the model that the European Union has defined as Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated (EDUSI) Development, whose strategy is necessary for Totana can access EU funds available to local authorities.

Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and integrated growth of the European Union;

and within this strategy, the European Commission believes that cities are central to the model of sustainable development and thus promotes through the structural funds and the cohesion policy, the implementation of integrated sustainable urban development measures integrate social and environmental fields, cos budge of cities from an integrated perspective.

Thus, the objective of the City of Totana is developing a Sustainable Urban Development Strategy for the municipality;

a tool that has become necessary to obtain European funding needed for urban development of the city framed in the multiannual financial framework European 2014/2020.

The project has several lines of integrated action through social cohesion and equality, urban regeneration and the environment;

employment, entrepreneurship and trade;

infrastructure, cultural heritage and tourism;

and citizen participation and open government, among others.

In addition, most of the population of Totana is concentrated in its urban core, however, the neighborhoods of the historic center have suffered a gradual degeneration negative impact on the parameters of urban mobility, maintenance and protection of heritage and integration and economic and social development of their citizens.

Especially affected have been the districts of San Jose, Las Parras, San Roque and La Prison, although the impact of this degradation affect the entire municipality.

The City Council is planning a Citizen Participation Plan for the implementation of the EDUSI order to involve citizens in the design and evaluation of public policies.

The objective of the Plan is to involve the residents of Totana in the execution of the EDUSI.

In the Citizen Participation Plan distinguish between two types of target audience.

On one side are the institutional players (neighboring municipalities, autonomous community, technical services of the City, asociac ions, companies, etc.) and other citizens as individuals.

Activities aimed at each other and forms of participation in the Plan will be different and adapted to each case, may contain public presentations, maps agents, sectoral meetings, working groups, committees and councils, activities, information and communication, conferences open, web pages, surveys, and so on.
