Totana joins, again, the national campaign "Wet for Multiple Sclerosis" to be held this Sunday at the Municipal Sports Complex "December 6", starting at 7:30 pm, within the framework of the VIII Campaign for Sensitization against Multiple Sclerosis, in favor of people suffering from this disease.
The initiative is promoted by the Association of Multiple Sclerosis Area III (EEA III), in collaboration with the Spanish Federation for the Fight against Multiple Sclerosis (EME);
and it is an action of social and solidarity awareness, celebrated in beaches and swimming pools throughout the national territory.
Totana adheres to this initiative of social awareness about multiple sclerosis, a neurological disease that is the first cause of disability not overcome in young population in our country, which is estimated to affect 55,000 people in Spain according to multiple sclerosis data Spain, of which 75% are women.
As in previous years, a series of activities will be carried out, such as "Brazadas solidarias" and the "Big Dip", with the aim of increasing social awareness about Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic disease of the Central Nervous System, which is usually affect people between 20 and 30 years old, and that can produce symptoms such as fatigue, lack of balance, pain, visual and cognitive alterations, speech difficulties or tremors.
According to the data that comes from "Wet 2018", a total of 104 people participated who swam a distance of 60,515 meters and 17 volunteers joined this edition.
Specifically, 27 people participated in the pool of Lorca, who swam a total of 12,225 and we have four volunteers.
In Totana, 36 swimmers who traveled 34,150 meters and five volunteers joined the initiative;
and in the case of Puerto Lumbreras, 41 people were in charge of doing 14,140 and we had four volunteers.
The collection will go to the services we provide daily from the association, such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, and psychological care, among others.
The collection of 'Mójate 2018' was 2,822.07 euros which corresponds to the sale of the products of the campaign that is carried out from May approximately until September and which includes T-shirts, towels, aprons, shovels, bags, et cetera.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system.
It is present throughout the world and is one of the most common neurological diseases among the population of 20 to 30 years.
It can produce symptoms such as fatigue, lack of balance, pain, visual and cognitive alterations, speech difficulties or tremors.
