The City Council will initiate the file to name Juliana de la Peña García as Adoptive Daughter of the City of Totana (04/05/2019)

The City Council of Totana agreed in its last ordinary session in April, unanimously, to initiate the file to appoint Juliana de la Peña García as Adoptive Daughter of the City of Totana for her collaboration and involvement in the social fabric and volunteering of the municipality.

This agreement comes to respond to a popular request of April 2015, signed by 430 residents of Totana who supported this initiative, which requested the title, included in the Rules of Honors and Distinctions, for their collaboration and involvement with the Associations of Housewives, the Association against Cancer and the work done as Defender of the Neighbor.

Julia de la Peña was born in Badajoz on October 30, 1942;

and together with her husband and three children, they arrived in Totana, for work reasons, in 1983.

Recently arrived in Totana he began his career in the "Association of Housewives, Consumers and Users the Three Hail Marys", initiating his commitment to this association as secretary in 1984, and of which he has been part for 24 years and currently serves as President of the same.

Her vocation of service led Julia de la Peña to debut in politics in the legislature of 1987/1991, being the first women who were appointed as councilors in the City of Totana;

during whose legislature was coordinator of the Municipal Group.

His experience in totanera politics encouraged him to be part of the next candidacy he presented, in this case and the Popular Party to the elections of 1991/1995, although this time he was not part of the Municipal Government continued to work tirelessly with a great vocation of public service.

After her political background at the service of the totaneros, Julia de la Peña continued to work very actively for the development of the municipality in various fields.

She worked as a professor of Religion at the Reina Sofía School;

and for sixteen years she held the position of president of the Local Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer of Totana, being a Councilor in the Provincial Executive of said association.

She was President of the AMPA of the Juan de la Cierva and Codorniú Institute at the time when her children were students in the center;

and her generosity led her to collaborate as a volunteer in the Red Cross and Cáritas del Convento.

For 12 years she has been "Defender of the Neighbor" in Totana, being voted democratically and by majority.

During this time, he fought and defended the interests of the residents of Totana who raised their problems before this charge.

As a Nursing Assistant Technician, she has worked altruistically in the Hospital Virgen del Alcázar de Lorca.

He has also been a substitute for a member of the Advisory Council for the designation of origin of Pimentón de Totana.

The Regional Federation of Housewives and Users granted him the recognition of "Female Leader" a few years ago.

One of his main objectives throughout his career, has been to work and fight for equality between men and women, which he has defended and continues to defend tirelessly. He is currently a member of the Council of Equality of the City Council of Totana, representing the Association of Housewives.

Her vocation of service and her love for others make Julia de la Peña a tireless woman and fighter for the people of her town, Totana, where she has lived a large part of her life and to whom she has defended in all areas where she has participated. .

The Municipal Corporation has now approved to grant such title in the coming months, for highlighting, in an extraordinary way, for its qualities and personal merits and services rendered to a large part of the Totanera society.
