Sierra Espuña has the most extensive arboreal mass of the Region of Murcia and one of its most emblematic natural environments;

green and leafy today thanks to the work of reforestation carried out at the end of the last century, led by the philanthropist from Murcia Ricardo Codorniú, better known by his nickname the tree's apostle.

The regional park of Sierra Espuña and its surroundings have become the first protected natural area of the Region of Murcia endorsed by the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS).

The municipalities that make up this environment are strategically disseminated through the interior regions of the Mula River (Mula y Pliego) and Sierra Espuña (Alhama de Murcia, Totana and Aledo).

These populations participate in the characteristics of the two regions.

On the one hand, Mula and Pliego are literally embedded between the Espuña and Ricote mountain ranges and are places of rich customs and cultural traditions.

At the same time, the characteristics of their landscape make them obligatory points to make a stop on the route through the interior of the region.

On the other hand, the localities of Alhama de Murcia, Totana and Aledo, participate fully in the mountainous and forest spirit, and a good part of their identity is found precisely in the Sierra de Espuña.
