Two vehicles collided frontally after the unregulated overtaking of the driver now investigated

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation to clarify the causes of the traffic accident, which occurred on November 23 on the N-340 highway (Cádiz-Barcelona), Totana municipal area, in which the drivers of two vehicles were seriously injured after frontal collision.

The investigation began on November 23, when the 1-1-2 alerted the Civil Guard of a traffic accident in which two vehicles had been involved, occurred at the height of kilometer 620,500 of the N-highway. 340 on its way through the municipality of Totana.
Specialists of the Traffic Detachment of Lorca moved to the place to attend, in the first place, to the two injured drivers, a man and a woman, which resulted in serious injuries after the frontal collision of both vehicles, as well as to obtain the information necessary to clarify the causes of the incident.

From the first inquiries it was found that the accident occurred when both drivers, to avoid colliding with a third vehicle that made an unregulated overtaking, diverted their trajectory and ended up colliding frontally between them.
One of them had to undergo surgery and the other remained hospitalized for several weeks at the Virgen de La Arrixaca University Hospital in Murcia.
Once the corresponding technical-ocular inspection and obtained the testimonies, evidence and vestiges of the accident site, the agents found out the make and model of the vehicle that, after performing the irregular overtaking, continued its march.
Determined the implication of the referred vehicle, the research work focused on its search and location, as well as on the identification of the person who was driving it the day of the accident.

Its owner and person driving the day of the events, a young man, aged 19, of Moroccan nationality and neighbor of Alhama de Murcia has been investigated as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of reckless driving and serious injuries due to imprudence.
The proceedings, the vehicle involved in the incident and the person investigated have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number 3 of Totana (Murcia).
The driving of a motor vehicle or moped with evident recklessness, putting in concrete danger the life or the integrity of the people, constitutes a crime against the road safety, gathered in the article 380 of the Penal Code, is punished with prison sentences of 6 months to 2 years and the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for longer than 1 and up to 6 years.
On the other hand, the crime of serious recklessness with a motor vehicle is included in Article 152 of the Penal Code and can be punished by imprisonment from 3 months to 3 years and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds. from 1 to 4 years old.
In this sense the Civil Guard appeals to the citizenship so that, as in this case, when they witness or have knowledge of a traffic accident take note of the greatest possible number of data, especially the type, characteristics and registration of the vehicle and communicate them to the Security Forces and Corps, with the objective of facilitating the police investigation and preventing such regrettable events as these from going unpunished.
