The Autonomous Community grants a subsidy of 80,577 euros for the execution of new interventions in the archaeological site of La Bastida (28/12/2018)

The Local Government Board has reported the final resolution of the Autonomous Community for which a total grant of 80,577 euros is granted, corresponding to 84% of the approved budget, under the line of aid promoted by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture for the performance of interventions in archaeological and paleontological sites of municipal ownership, as reported by the councilor of Archaeological Sites Juan José Cánovas.

The mayor recalled that the City Council presented on October 19 a project called "Improvement of means of dissemination and consolidation of prehistoric architectural structures in the archaeological site of La Bastida", following the order of June 6, 2018 of this department of Regional government, as he said.

This order established the regulatory bases for subsidies to municipalities in the Region of Murcia to carry out actions in municipal property deposits, as is the case of La Bastida;

and was pleased by the notification of the Ministry, dated on December 14, as well as the amount of the total allocated to each project, which could not exceed 100,000 euros for each project.

Juan José Cánovas stressed that his municipal department have worked, as has been shown by the granting of this aid, maintaining "a firm commitment to the conservation and recovery of the archaeological park of La Bastida and firmness with the enhancement of heritage, ensuring the works in the deposit and also facilitating its knowledge to the visitors ".

For this reason, aid for archaeological actions has been set in motion, for which a million euros are allocated for both municipalities and non-profit organizations, according to sources from the regional government in a press release.

In addition, the mayor of Yacimientos Arqueológicos reported that, now, you can opt for 50,000 euros corresponding to the new line of public aid through the call promoted by the regional government for projects carried out by research teams, and that are also counting on the coordination and collaboration of its Council.

He advocated maintaining the institutional collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) for its value and insisted that the lines of collaboration are acceptable and normal within the economic possibilities that exist in the municipal coffers, financing the stay of archaeologists and taking charge of others of expenses of maintenance, conservation, security and cleaning of the archaeological park.

The Local Government Board already approved a few months ago the justification for the extraordinary municipal subsidy of 6,500 euros that was entered last May under a collaboration agreement signed with this university teaching institution;

and he recalled that the municipal support line for the security of the site is maintained for an amount that amounts to more than 100,000 euros.

Juan José Cánovas recalled the constant efforts being made by his Council for months with the owners of the deposits of the Strip of the Canvas, The Cabezuelas and the Roman ruins of Luis Martínez González Street, which are still awaiting the appraisal of the technical reports of the Department of Urbanism to become municipal heritage, thus being able to opt for future lines of public aid for its enhancement.

He also commented that his Department is collaborating in a coordinated and active with the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to obtain maximum budget profitability in each of the projects presented.

He reiterated that the aid granted could only be attended by municipal councils with municipally owned deposits, and in which case the totanero Consistory should now contribute 10% of the project amount for rehabilitation, consolidation and value enhancement activities.

Similarly, he noted that his department has been working since the beginning of the legislature in the hands of the Directorate General of Cultural Assets in this matter;

and said that in the coming weeks the Ministry will announce the budgetary results of the new line of subsidies for more precise research and excavation in archaeological sites.

In this regard, he pleaded for the City Council to continue betting on public management policies and experts in this matter so that these works can be awarded to the UAB and archaeologists with knowledge in this area.

The councilor of Archaeological Sites added that his department will continue to insist on political management so that, through the employment programs offered by the Employment and Training Service of the Autonomous Community, three people will be permanently hired in the archaeological site that can perform maintenance and conservation work in "La Bastida" in order to enhance the public archaeological heritage of Totana.

He also defended the idea that "La Bastida" be projected within the program of visits that the company "Conexión Cultura" manages jointly with other places of tourist interest for visitors and the hospitality services that lend themselves to enhance cross-cutting sectors such as commerce, crafts and hospitality in Totana.
