The PP calls for an urgent and priority return to work to close a National Water Pact (20/07/2018)

The PP of Totana will ask the full of the month of July, that urgently and priority return to work to close a National Water Pact by the Government of Pedro Sanchez.

The arrival of the PSOE to the Government of Spain has given a turn to the road of agreement and consensus undertaken by the Popular Party on the National Water Pact.

The latest statements of the new Minister of Ecological Transition, questioning the contributions of water from the transfers, considering that they are an extraordinary resource, put in serious danger the subsistence of the economy of the southeast of Spain and the jobs of thousands of families.

Some statements with the aggravating circumstance that it ignores the existence of deficit basins in our country, which means not recognizing the need for water in the Region of Murcia.

In Spain, one of the great challenges is to manage the structural shortage of water, which has been highlighted, in a more relevant way, in the recent period of drought that we have gone through.

In the Region of Murcia, on June 4 the Popular Party, the PSOE, and Citizens signed, in the San Esteban Palace, a Regional Pact for Water.

A document that reveals the structural deficit of water resources suffered by the Segura River Basin and includes the necessary measures to guarantee the necessary contributions and resources that allow the supply for human supply and irrigation.

The document commits, in its article 35, to the signatory political parties to transfer the content of the agreement to their respective national directorates, so that they may adopt the proposals collected.

The Communities of Irrigators throughout Spain, at its National Congress held in Torrevieja, unanimously approved a proposal to guarantee water in all river basins, betting on the implementation of new regulation and transport works, reservoirs and transfers, as a way of solution to all existing problems and deficits, within the framework of the future National Water Pact.

The work for the attainment of a National Water Pact was initiated by the Government of the Popular Party that left the agreement practically finalized, in the absence of the signature.

The president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, has requested an urgent meeting with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to explain the Regional Water Pact and the measures it contemplates.

Measures such as the flexibility of assignments of rights, the interconnection of basins and full performance and interconnect the desalination plants, the shielding of the Tajo-Segura transfer and the need to prepare a National Water Infrastructure Plan.

A meeting that will serve to remind you of the commitment of the previous national Executive with all the Autonomous Communities of Spain and, therefore, the need to resume the task and sign and a National Water Pact, to end once and for all with deficits water, with the uncertainty of hundreds of thousands of farmers and irrigators, and disputes between territories over water.

A minister of the Government of Spain, who says that the Tajo-Segura Transfer is something exceptional and not ordinary, that does not recognize the lack of water in the Segura basin and that says it is not deficient and that it also calls the deficit "myth" water, when there is a Basin Plan prepared by technicians, which states that it has a structural need of 500 cubic hectometres, is a minister who has generated great uncertainty, fear and concern in the Spanish Levante regions, especially between the sector agrifood that needs water to continue being an engine of development, growth and employment.

From the Popular Party we consider urgent and priority that the Government of Spain resume the work, very advancing, with the political parties to reach, definitively, a national agreement on water.

An agreement that must provide definitive solutions, especially for those regions whose hydrographic basins do not have sufficient water resources.
